Training is a particularly interesting subject, because it is a limiting factor for those who are just starting, as well as for those who are looking for a performance.
For a 50-ish couple, like us, we have to think about the age factor. The muscles and joints have a harder time adjusting to abrupt changes in training. Generally, we have to adapt our training more progressively than when we were 25, when we could be ready for an ultra in 2 months. So, to avoid injury, heavy training has to be spread out if we want to be in the kind of shape we want to reach our goals.
Our personal goal is to finish the Tor de Geants 2017, all of its 200 miles and 82,000 feet of uphill. In order to reach this goal, we have a base of 6 weekly activities:
